Exploration Drilling

mine-spec multipurpose rigs

Star Drilling offers exploration drilling services with mine-spec multipurpose rigs capable of 2000 m depth, including Sonic coring and wireline diamond coring.

Our staff are experienced in remote area drilling and have the knowledge to safely complete your exploration project.

Continuous Sonic Core Samples

Sonic technology

Using Sonic technology, Star Drilling can provide continuous core samples with close to a 100% recovery which can be retrieved from any type of geological formation with minimal or no fluid usage.

Sonic excels in difficult conditions and delivers accurate information where other methods fail. It is able to competently handle strata conditions such as heaving/flowing sands, cobbles, boulders, sands and gravel to name a few. Sizes 100mm, 150mm and 175mm.

Hole Clearance using NDD

Non Destructive Digging (NDD)

Star Drilling offers hole clearance via Non Destructive Digging (NDD), also called hydro excavation, vacuum excavation or pot holing.

This clearance method is a safe and efficient alternative to mechanical excavating.

A combination of high pressure water jetting and high volume vacuum loading is used to remove soil covering existing utilities, e.g. power, water, gas, sewer, storm water, telecommunications, etc.

Licensed Well Decommissioning

licenced driller

Any well decommissioning by law must be conducted by a licenced driller.

Star Drilling has Class 2 drillers licenced in all Australian jurisdictions who can decommission pumping and monitoring wells in accordance with the Minimum Construction Requirements for Water Bores in Australia, 3rd Edition.

Pneumatic Permeability Testing

double or single NQ, HQ and PQ sized equipment

Star Drilling operators have many years’ experience in pneumatic permeability testing. We offer double or single NQ, HQ and PQ sized equipment and can run two rigs simultaneously.

Single Pneumatic Test Equipment

Single Pneumatic Test Equipment is designed for testing cored holes whilst drilling progresses to greater depths. The pneumatic system is suitable for testing cored holes to a total depth of 700m.

When a zone of interest is identified in the retrieved core sample, the drill rods are moved back a suitable distance, such that the deployed packer equipment can be inflated above the zone of interest. Once inflated (using the Nitrogen gas supply), testing of water injection flow rates at various injection pressures can commence. Injection pressure can be controlled via a bypass system on the injection flowmeter board.

Star Drilling’ equipment is available for hire and, if required, a suitably trained operator can assist with operations or training of your on-site staff.

Straddle Pneumatic Test Equipment

Straddle Pneumatic Test Equipment is designed for testing specific zones of cored holes once drilling to total depth is complete. The pneumatic system is suitable for testing cored holes to a total depth of 700m.

When a zone of interest is identified in the retrieved core sample, the drill rods are moved back a suitable distance such that the deployed packer equipment can be inflated with the two packers straddling the zone of interest. Once inflated, testing of water injection flow rates at various injection pressures can commence. Injection pressure can be controlled via a bypass system on the injection flowmeter board - supplied as part of the standard equipment.
